John Oettinger, D.M.D.
Dr. Oettinger is a native North Carolinian. He grew up in Kinston, NC about two hours east of Southern Pines. After receiving a degree in Philosophy from UNC Chapel Hill, he had a short career in real estate before deciding to pursue his dream of becoming a dentist. After completing post-baccalaureate work at UNC Chapel Hill, he earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry, where he served as a student teacher, class representative, and member of the admissions committee. During dental school, Dr. Oettinger participated in a clinical externship with the 2nd Dental Battalion, United States Navy at Camp Lejeune, NC.
He went on to distinguish himself by completing dental school first in his class and was the only Summa Cum Laude graduate. For his outstanding academic and clinical achievement he was recognized as a National Board Part I Scholar and Dean’s Scholar; he was chosen by the Dean as a Humana Scholar; he received the Hanau Prosthodontics Award, the Southeastern Academy of Prosthodontics Award, the Horace Wells Senior Student Award and the Alpha Omega Award among others; and he was inducted into the honor society of Phi Kappa Phi and Omicron Kappa Upsilon national dental honor society.
Dr. Oettinger then completed a three-year residency in Prosthodontics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry and the Birmingham VA Medical Center. His residency involved intensive training in complex oral rehabilitation, and included a particular emphasis in both the surgical and prosthetic phases of implant dentistry. He holds two Certificates of Advanced Education in Prosthodontics.
Dr. Oettinger holds an appointment as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Prosthodontics at the UNC School of Dentistry and assists often in clinical instruction of dental students and prosthodontic residents.

Dr. Oettinger enjoys practicing dentistry, but not as much as spending time with his little girl Libba, son Leo, and wife Elizabeth. He also enjoys surfing, fishing, golfing, tennis, reading and watching the Tar Heels.
Dr. Kevin Patel was born and raised in Carthage, North Carolina. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science with a minor in Chemistry and Genetics from North Carolina State University. He then went on to receive his Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) from East Carolina University. He completed his Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency Program at the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, West Virginia.
Dr. Patel is a member of the American Dental Association as well as the North Carolina Dental Society. When asked what he enjoys most about his job, he says:
“Dentistry is both challenging and rewarding. No two mouths are the same. No two fillings are the same. Every day is a new challenge that allows me to connect with my patients and help enhance their quality of life.”
Dr. Patel currently resides in Carthage, North Carolina. In his spare time, Dr. Patel enjoys playing basketball, running, and watching sports.
Alicia- Dental Assistant
Alicia was born and raised in Fayetteville. She is the youngest of 4 siblings. Alicia graduated from NC Dental U in 2018 before joining Oettinger & Associates. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends as well as volunteering for Leaf Of Life.
Melissa- Dental Hygienist
Melissa has been in the Fayetteville area for the past 20 years. She attended Pensacola Junior College in Florida and has been a dental hygienist since 1999. Melissa strives to ensure our patients always feel 100% informed and comfortable during their visit. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
Briana- Dental Hygienist
Briana is originally from Bossier City, LA and moved to Fayetteville in 1998. Her husband has retired from the military and they now calls Hope Mills home with their 5 children. Briana fell in love with dentistry when stationed at Camp Humphrey while training to be a dental assistant. After becoming a dental assistant, Briana started her path to becoming a hygienist. She takes great pride in being able to help patients with their oral care.
Samantha- Front Desk
Samantha has been in the dental field for 24 years. She strives to make patients feel like they are in a family friendly environment that is also extremely knowledgeable and professional. When not at work Samantha’s two boys keep her busy four wheeling, going paint-balling, and playing on the trampoline.
